Mara Suttmann-Lea is a professor of American Politics and an advocate for political participation. They believe in the broadest definition possible of “eligible voter”, and that every eligible voter— no matter who they are or their background— has the right to (know how to) vote. Their research is motivated by this belief, and a desire to understand what election officials and political actors can do to help realize this right.

The mission of ”What Voting Means to Me” is to encourages dialogue and debate about the role of democratic governance, and the values individuals bring to the act of voting (or non-voting). The podcast was born out of a desire to step out from behind the numbers and dig deeply into what the act at the core of democratic systems—the vote—means to people from all walks of life.

Mara lives, works, and podcasts from Connecticut, USA.
